The Hotel and Personal Service Senior Staff Association, an affiliate of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), don begin picketing Abuja Continental Hotel over alleged unfair labour practices and poor working conditions.
The union also dey protest issues around the unionisation of hotel workers and their freedom to join or belong to workers’ associations.
According to the union, several attempts to meet with the hotel management to resolve the issues have not yielded any result.
At the time of filing the report, union members were attempting to lock the hotel gate, but police officers and some hotel officials resisted.
However, the union had blocked the entrance to the hotel as the protest continued.
The workers are demanding attention to what they describe as unfair labour practices and indecent working conditions, while also calling for respect for workers’ rights to freedom of association.
