APC GOVERNORS UNDER FIRE AS DEM ALLEGEDLY CHEER SHEIKH JINGIR ANTI-CHRISTIAN TALK

Four APC governorsKano’s Abba Yusuf, Jigawa’s Umar Namadi, Zamfara’s Dauda Lawal and Katsina’s Dikko Umar Radda — don come under heavy criticism after a video showed them at an event where Islamic cleric Sheikh Yahya Jingir made controversial comments about Christians and Nigeria’s religious identity.

The cleric was speaking during a mass wedding ceremony organised by the Kano State Government for 1,500 couples. While defending his support for the APC Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket, Jingir reportedly described Christians as infidels and suggested that Muslims were taking over Nigeria.

A video from the event has since gone viral, with some viewers accusing the governors of cheering and applauding the remarks.

Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode criticised the alleged reaction, saying the governors’ response was even more disturbing to him than the cleric’s comments.

Plateau-based cleric Prophet Isa El-Buba also condemned the governors’ alleged conduct, questioning why leaders in the North would appear to celebrate such remarks while insecurity, banditry and drug abuse continue to affect the region.

The controversy has now sparked fresh debate over religious tolerance, political leadership and the responsibility of elected officials to promote unity in Nigeria.
